really IS haunted (Phantom 1990) by SmudgeThistle really IS haunted (Phantom 1990) by SmudgeThistle
So I finally saw the 1990 Phantom of the Opera with Charles Dance! :D Don't know why it took so long. :XD: I loved it though. The most cheerful version of the Phantom I have ever seen.

Yeah, this version is really great. Christine is blonde (finally!), it's filmed in Paris... :D
The only thing that disapointed me was that we didn't see his face.

I actually really like that we don't see his face. Our imaginations are far more powerful than anything else! :D

XD on Erik reacting to Carlotta's voice.  Charles Dance is Erik's soul, plain and simple.  I fall in love with him all over again each time I see footage from that version of the story.

Oh I absolutely adore him as well! I should have watched this way sooner, I've only seen it once so far.

Me too.  I've only seen it once all the way through, and a version of the Yestin-Kopit Phantom on stage with Richard White in the titular role.

What is your favorite film version of Phantom BTW?

Errrm. That is a difficult question. Some of my favourite versions (for different reasons) are the book, the 1925 film... the ALW musical of course (the 25th anniversary edition with Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess being my favourite cast)... I also love The Phantom of the Paradise and the 1990 version with Charles Dance. :D

This is one of my favorite versions. So upbeat - though you never really see what his face looked like. XD

It really is! :) I find it very interesting that you never see it. It simultaneously makes the movie more light hearted while still allowing the viewer to imagine Erik as gruesome as they please. Ingenious!
